Crowd-living humans are shaped by society, to become separate entities living among individuals. Our community life should have been created by community dwellers / stakeholders, but not from destruction by the authorities.
Band-mates crammed themselves into 3/F to create and jam music, while the government insisted to ‘revitalize’ industrial buildings. Therefore people took to the streets with their drums, shouting and protesting on the road, just to take back their living space un-intervened.
Walking into a place he was not living in, Johnny filmed ploughing towards depth of the field, with moving images as the medium. letting kai-fongs (community dwellers) tell their stories, the moving images are rendered into community-scape of tokwawan.
‘Fungi party’ takes the imagery of fungi saprophytic to rotten wood and land, telling the story of a group of people who have been throwing parties in abandoned industrial buildings. There they are, whenever a new land is found. When it comes to police intervention, or ‘revitalization projects’ whitewashing kwun tong ferry pier by the government, they fight back and regain the space by themselves.
After being kicked out, to come back or to find new places to survive – whether it is public or private, costly or cheap, any land can be of good use to the dwellers, just that it’s needless to be planned by the government…
