screening in public spaces, walking the talk?
this screening will be in public spaces.
at hong kong social movement film festival we don‘t just talk the talk but walk the talk (on public spaces) as well. to follow through and experiment with “from the public (space) , back to the co-working and develop the public (space)" and “returning from the scene of action back then, to the site for action here and now” by returning to the scene for action, we look forward to explore public gathering and co-operations, to co-work (co-workers) , and to develop public (space).
an accommodating and cooperative experiment should respect everyone, every voice and every use of spaces. we expect everyone from the public to make proactively direct communication and coordination to resolve any potential conflict, with mutual care at heart and collective cultivation of the public (space) in mind.
public space belongs to the public. it is the foundation of gathering and exchanging ideas, of cooperating and moving forward, of people’s autonomy, and of developing the public (space). anything that stifles the space for people’s autonomous expressions and possibilities is unnecessary.
therefore, naturally we won’t apply to or inform any governing authority of our screening. do bear in mind as participants/viewers? of hksmff, one might have to face and respond in a collective manner to intervention/interruption from the power-monopolizing, bigheaded regulators . suffice to say public space is where the general public support, care for, face collectively and resolve problems with one another, an important “walk" in public indeed.
